STUDENTS

AVLA Vets is very happy to give all students in their clinical years placements - however places are necessarily limited. Priority will be given to students with an enthusiastic attitude and an ambition to work with farm animals or in a mixed farm/equine practice.

Our placement offers students a chance to get involved with a varied farm and equine caseload with a farm animal bias. Of course every experience will be different depending on season and caseload but we hope that you would get the chance to get involved with :

• Routine work such as pregnancy diagnosis (manual and ultrasound scanning), and herd health discussions.

• Visits to include sick animal workups, calvings, lambings and emergency surgeries etc.

• Equine visits: Vaccinations and routine horse calls.

Students must have a keen interest in production animal health

We appreciate a proactive approach to working with us and are more than happy for you to join in clinical discussion and practical work. However if you don’t know the answer to any questions or have never assisted in a particular procedure just say - we don’t bite!
